A Mothers Heartbreak
To my Tony
When you were just my baby
I held you in my arms
I vowed to heaven and earth
That I'd keep you from harm
When you were just a toddler
You were quick to give a hug
You were definitely all boy
You loved to play with bugs
When it was time to go to school
On the board your name would go
When I would ask you why
You'd say "Mom, I don't know"
When it was time to make a project
Of all the happy things in life
You choose to make a gun
You choose to make a knife
When you went off to middle school
And it wasn't cool to hug good-bye
You still always did it
You didn't care where or why
When you went off to High School
You didn't always have to be right
You found an easier way
You would just fight
When the choices that you made
Started to control your life
You always started over
To try to make things right
Then you became a Dad
A father to your son
I know that you were proud
Of the work that you had done
My proudest moments Tony
Were watching you with Chase
Your face carried so much worry
But around him it'd erase
You told me many times
"Mom I'll never leave his side"
I look at him and smile Ton
And think of you with pride
Hold onto Grandpas hand Tony
